The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation is the name of Denmark's new creative institution of higher education. The merger between the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture and the Danish Design School has been planned over a number of years, and as of early 2011, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Conservation has joined the merger project.

On Thursday 26 May 2011, the Danish parliament, Folketinget, approved the Act on Merger of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, the Danish Design School and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Conservation, which is effective as of 2 June 2011.

The merger is the result of an extensive agreement for the Ministry of Culture's institutions of higher education, which is to ensure stable frameworks and sustainable environments for continuing the development of educational offers, research and development work that can be ranked according to international standards.

The new merged institution will continue to offer degree programmes in architecture, conservation and design, and it will be managed by a Board, which will hire the school's rector.

The objective of the new institution: The objective of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation as an institution of higher education is to provide education in architecture, design, arts and crafts, conservation and restoration on an artistic and scientific basis and to the highest level, and to conduct artistic development work and on a scientific basis to carry out research in the fields of architecture, design, arts and crafts, conservation and restoration. – Quote from Act on Change of Act on Institutions of Higher Artistic Education under the Ministry of Culture

The day-to-day management will be handled jointly by the three current rectors until a rector for the merged institution has been hired.

“We look forward to the merger with great expectations. Our role has been to lead the schools safely towards the merger, and now we are looking forward to the appointment of a Board, which will help define the framework for our new joint institution,” says the schools' current rectors: Anne-Louise Sommer (the School of Design), René Larsen (the School of Conservation) and Sven Felding (the School of Architecture).
